Introduction to Mentoring

This session will introduce the mentoring program at IHPCSS. This school is not just about technical skills! After the presentation, there will be an informal mixer and a chance to mingle with the other participants.

Returning Mentor Introductions & Returning mentors career talks

After brief introductions from all staff, we will have lightning talks from each of our returning mentors, individuals who previously attended the summer school as students. The returning mentors will share the career path decisions they have made after the IHPCSS. This could give you an idea of what's in store for you.

Lunch & goal setting

Meet your mentoring group (if you haven't already on Sunday) and engage in a chat about your goals for the week. What are your expectations? What do you need to do to get the most of out this event?

Career Breakout Groups

During the Career Workshop, we'll start with a brief discussion highlighting some of the different career paths available.  Then we'll split into groups and have interactive sessions on the following topics: résumés/CVs writing skills, interview tips, presentation skills, and elevator pitch and networking. You will need these 'soft' skills, regardless of your chosen career path.

One-on-one Mentoring

During this session you will have a chance to talk to your assigned mentor about anything that's on your mind - from career planning to work-life balance. We encourage you to think ahead of time about topics you might want to discuss, or questions you’d like answered. Some suggestions are available in the Guide For Mentees.

Resource Fair

At the Resource Fair, the mentors will be stationed at different locations, each with a different topic of discussion. You will be able to wander freely between mentors and talk about topics of interest. A list of topics will be posted on the Moodle before the event.
