1. Introduction

Welcome to 'Developing Effective Webinar Training.' This course will help you create effective instruction using webinar best practices, interactive tools for engaging learners, and instructional design principles. As much as possible, the instruction uses little jargon and teaches practical techniques you should find easy to apply. After all, the goal of the course is to help you share your technical expertise by training others, not to make you an instructional design expert.

This course is comprised of the five lessons listed below. The expected time to complete each lesson is indicated in parenthesis.

  1. Overview of Effective Webinar Training (1 hour)
  2. Enhancing Webinar Participant Engagement (2 hours)
  3. Planning Webinar Instruction (2 hours)
  4. Developing an Instructional Strategy (2 hours)
  5. Developing Instructional Materials (1 hour)

Each lesson builds on the previous one, so you should take them in the order listed.

Relevant examples, worksheets, and templates are provided throughout the instruction.

2. What you will learn

After completing this course, you will be able to:

3. How to take this course

  • Moving between Lessons: This course is organized by Lessons. You can access each lesson by clicking its link in the left navigation or scrolling down the course homepage. Move to the next or previous lesson by clicking the Lesson title in the left navigation or the links shown below the lesson content area.

  • Accessing Self-Tests: There are four Self-Tests with one included at the end of Lessons 1 - 4. You can access them by clicking its link in the lessons content area or when you are at the end of the book activity, from the link shown below the lesson content area.
  • Completion Progress: There is a check box to the right of each course activity that indicates your progress in the course. You must get a checkmark in each of the boxes to complete all of the required components.

There are two ways to approach taking this course:

  1. The first approach is to read all of the instructional content, watch the videos, follow along with the examples, and complete the Self-Tests for Lessons 1 - 4. This approach will give you valuable knowledge about developing effective webinar instruction.
  2. The second approach is to complete the activities in the first approach, plus complete the practice exercises. This will not only give you the opportunity to practice what you learn, but when you have finished all of the activities, you will have developed your own webinar training materials.
